Privacy Policy
1. Who we are
Yooop! ("we", "us") is a website at yooop.online that helps users discover restaurants and cafés through short video reviews from public YouTube creators. Yooop! is operated by Kunn Kangvansaichol, an individual based in Bangkok, Thailand.
2. Use of YouTube API Services
Yooop! uses YouTube API Services to discover, retrieve, and display video reviews of cafés and restaurants. By using Yooop!, you agree to be bound by the YouTube Terms of Service.
Yooop!'s use and processing of information received from Google APIs (including YouTube API Services) adheres to the Google Privacy Policy.
3. What information we access, collect, and store
From YouTube API Services we retrieve:
- Public video metadata: video ID, title, channel name, description, publication date, view and like counts, thumbnail URL, embedded player.
- This metadata is cached on our servers so the same video isn't re-fetched repeatedly.
- We do not request or store any private YouTube account data, watch history, or subscriptions.
From you, the user:
- Anonymous visitors (no sign-in): your browser locally stores filter preferences, language, font-size, and your "saved spots" list using your browser's
localStorage— this never leaves your device. - Usage analytics (first-party): to understand how the app is used and improve it, we record anonymous product-usage events (for example, which café or video you viewed, and actions like searching, sorting, or saving) on our own servers. Each browser is identified only by a random, anonymous ID stored in your browser — no name, email, or account is attached unless you are signed in, in which case events are linked to your account ID. We derive an approximate location (country/region/city) from your IP address for aggregate statistics but do not store your IP address. We use no third-party advertising or cross-site tracking. Anonymous event data is retained for up to 13 months.
- Signed-in visitors (Google sign-in via Firebase Authentication): we receive your Google display name, email address, and profile photo URL. We store reviews, ratings, and saved-spots lists you create, keyed to your Google account, in Google Firestore.
- Standard server logs from our hosting provider Vercel: IP address, user agent, request path, timestamp — used only for debugging and abuse prevention, retained for at most 30 days.
4. How we use information
- To display café entries and the YouTube video reviews associated with them.
- To personalize your saved-spots list and the reviews you've written.
- To improve discovery — e.g. ranking cafés, identifying duplicates, removing closed businesses.
- To debug errors and prevent abuse via server logs.
5. How we share information
We do not sell, rent, or share your information with third parties for marketing. Your information flows only to the providers that make Yooop! work:
- Google (YouTube Data API, Maps Places API, Firebase Authentication, Firestore, Gemini AI): queries and authentication. Subject to the Google Privacy Policy.
- Vercel (hosting + analytics): serves the site, runs the API endpoints, stores our first-party usage analytics (Vercel Postgres), and provides privacy-friendly, cookieless aggregate traffic measurement (Vercel Web Analytics). Subject to Vercel's privacy policy.
- Anthropic (Claude API): used in our backend pipeline for content summarization. Pipeline data does not include user identity.
- Legal requirements: we will disclose information when required by valid legal process.
6. Cookies and similar technologies
Yooop! uses your browser's localStorage to remember your language, font-size, filter selections, dismissed-duplicates list, and saved-spots list. This data stays on your device.
For first-party usage analytics we store a random, anonymous identifier in your browser's localStorage (and a per-visit session ID in sessionStorage). These are not cookies, are not shared across sites, and contain no personal information. Clearing your browser storage resets them.
Firebase Authentication sets cookies on your browser when you sign in, to keep you signed in. These cookies are managed by Google.
The embedded YouTube player on cafe pages sets its own cookies under the youtube.com and google.com domains. These cookies are governed by Google's privacy policy. Yooop! does not read or use these cookies.
You can revoke Yooop!'s access to your Google account at any time via your Google Account Permissions page. To delete the data we have stored about you (reviews, saved spots), email us using the contact below and we'll remove it within 30 days.
7. Children
Yooop! is not directed to children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect their information.
8. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The "last updated" date at the top reflects the most recent change.
